MEDALS

The 2019 edition of SMV Canada welcomed 501 producers, negotiators and agents from 34 countries, which represents a 20% increase over 2018. A total of 1,564 wines competed in the various categories of the competition. The names of the Grand Gold medalists and other award winners were announced during the recognition evening that took place on the final day of the event.

The judging panels were chaired by 56 expert oenologist and sommeliers from 15 different countries. The judges worked meticulously throughout the four-day event, applying the competition rules and criteria with rigour and impartiality in order to determine the winners.

This year, a total of 481 medals and 4 special awards were conferred.

Conferred to the champagne with the highest score.

THE CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF OENOLOGISTS AWARD:

  • L’Orpailleur Chardonnay, 2017, Cuvée Signature, Québec, Canada

Conferred to the Canadian still white wine chosen by association members
among the five with the highest scores.

PRODUCER OF THE YEAR:

  • SC COTNARI SA, Romania

Conferred to the producer whose wines obtain the best average score, which is calculated based on the five wines that obtained the highest scores overall.

THE “VINOFED” AWARD (ex-aequo) :

  • Paradise Can Wait Syrah 2015, Kardista IGP, Winery Monsieur Nicolas by G. Karamitros, Greece

  • Blés Reserva 2015, Valencia DO, Aranleón, Spain

Conferred to the dry wine with the best score on 100 points, all categories combined.
