Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada is one of the oldest and one of the most important wine competitions in the world.
It was created in Canada, in 1983 and was managed by Société des alcohols du Québec (SAQ), which is still the owner. In 2006, the SAQ concluded, for management purposes, an agreement with a group of wine lovers in Québec City.
In 1994, Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada was one of the founding members of the World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirits competitions (VinoFed) comprised of the most important wine competitions in the world, for example: Vinalies internationales in Paris, Vinandino in Argentina, Vino Ljubljana in Slovenia, Bacchus in Spain, Mondial du Pinot Noir in Switzerland, Mundusvini in Germany, VinAgora in Hungray and Premios Zarcillo in Spain.
Its 16th edition was held in Quebec city from May 26 to May 31, 2009.The Competition indeed received 1 836 registrations from more than 600 producers coming from 32 different countries. The wines were awarded 554 medals of which 3 Grand Gold Medals, 60 Gold Medals and 491 Silver Medals.
Our competition follows standards of rigour and objectivity, in conformity with the rules of the International organization of the vine and wine (OIV), of Vinofed and of Union internationale des OEnologues (UIOE) which will continue to be applied at the time of the 17th edition of Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada which will be held from June 1 to 6, 2010 in Québec City.

One of the interesting facets of a competition as Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada is the fact that this wine competition happens within an annual congress in Quebec where wine producers, wine tasters, wine writers and reporters and the agencies promoting wine can meet to discuss their reciprocal experience and plan the improvements of their sphere of activity. The object of these meeting is to find ways to serve better the consumers from the whole world.
This congress is divided into several phases, of which daily conferences on various subjects connected to the wine or the knowledge of Quebec society.
At the time of this congress, the producers of about thirty countries.
The tasters-congressmen come from a score of different countries and share their knowledge, their experience and their love of wine. The conferences are given either by international experts, or by local experts and that on a daily basis according to the official program.
